While we understand a lot of patients want dentures as quickly as they can get them, it’s imperative to get the design right.

This requires sometimes extensive time and multiple scans as well as fittings. In a lot of cases though, it doesn’t feel as long as it is.

Also, it depends on the kind of dentures one is interested in. For example, there are implant-supported dentures, suction dentures, full dentures, and partial dentures. Everyone needs a specific option or a combination of them.

How Long Does it Take to Make Dentures on Average?

The average dentures take between three to five weeks.

Something which could extend the amount of time between your initial consultation and you having your finished dentures is if there are teeth that need to be extracted or restored. In that case, a denturist must wait until you are fully healed before proceeding.

How Many Appointments Do I Need for Dentures?

Though it varies from patient to patient but most will have to make four or five appointments with their denturist.

Those appointments are spaced out over the course of 3-6 weeks. After you have your dentures, there will be further checkups and appointments to ensure your dental appliance is still in fair condition and to confirm they are still fitted properly to the shape of your mouth.

How Long Do I Have to Wait After Teeth Are Pulled for Dentures?

Once you get your teeth pulled, it’s a waiting game. Your mouth must be fully healed before proceeding.

The average time it takes for a mouth to heal after extractions is 6-9 weeks. This gives your gums and jaw enough time to heal and reshape properly.

If you don’t want to be without teeth for two months or longer, immediate dentures are recommended for temporary placement.

Can You Get Your Teeth Pulled and Get Dentures the Same Day?

Yes! …well, sort of.

While your gums and oral cavity need time to fully heal, immediate dentures can be placed the same day that natural teeth are removed.

This way, you’ll be able to flash your smile any time you’re in the mood while waiting for your permanent dentures to be designed and fitted.

What Does Getting An Impression for Dentures Feel Like?

Once your mouth is ready to move forward with the real first significant step towards getting dentures, a denturist takes an impression.

This impression is in essence a negative mould of your mouth. By its shapes and detail, dentures are made.

A liquid or semi-solid material is used to make the impression. It is placed in your mouth, fitting across and over your dental arches. This material usually becomes solid in 30 seconds. It is procured by the denturist and then transferred to our on-site laboratory.

The process of getting a denture impression done isn’t uncomfortable per se. It’s a very straightforward and quick action.

In the same appointment, a denturist will likely want to establish a proper bite and teeth orientation. You will also be asked to select the color, size, and shape of the denture teeth you want.

All this information is then sent to our lab where our technicians hard work at crafting the dentures down to the finest detail.

How Many Times Do I Get to Try On My Dentures Before Having Them Permanently?

At the lab, it takes a day or two to craft the beginnings of your permanent dentures.

Once this stage is completed, you will be called in to try them on. Here, they will be checked for fit, aesthetics, and function.

The dentures are then sent back to the lab with notes on any changes you or the denturist wants made.

The lab also handles the cleaning, polishing, and adjustments that need to be done. Afterward, they are sent to you for final fitting.

At your next denturist appointment, any last-minute adjustments can be made chairside. All in all, you can expect to be called in for at least two fittings before being able to take your dentures home.

How Long Does it Take to Get Implant Dentures?

One of the most popular denture types in Ontario currently are implant dentures, or implant-supported dentures.

This type of denture uses implants surgically implanted in the mouth. As one can imagine, this expands the time required to get dentures fitted. Due to the fact that one has to wait for the healing to complete, implant dentures take more time to get.

A candidate can expect two surgeries and a minimum of three to five months to get through the full process.

This varies patient to patient. In some cases, it can take longer to get your implant-supported dentures.
